Major Workshops/Instructors:

Major Workshop Instructors meet with their class for four mornings during the conference and also participate in faculty readings and/or lectures. Room assignments will be announced once the roster is finalized.

Attendees arrive and get settled. Welcome to the Big Apple! 

4:30-5:45 pm: Early check-in at Kinokuniya Bookstore. Faculty Assistants Adeeba Afshan Rana and Erica Vega will be on site with welcome materials.

Seven Major Workshops are held at The Bryant Park Hotel Terrace Loft and Loft, at The Library Hotel Writer's Den, Poetry Garden and Executive Boardroom, at The Algonquin Hotel Library Room and at Cassa Hotel New York Boardroom. Workshops run from 8:30-11:30 am (with 15 min break). Writers may bring coffee to workshop by special arrangement with the hotels, but outside food is not permitted in the hotels.

The Algonquin Round Table Walking Tour comes alive in the only New York walking tour devoted to the famed literary group. The 2-hour walk celebrates Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, George S. Kaufman, Harpo Marx, Edna Ferber, Franklin P. Adams, Heywood Broun, Harold Ross, Robert Sherwood, Marc Connelly and the rest of the Vicious Circle. The tour begins and ends at the landmark Algonquin Hotel, 59 West 44th Street. The tour encompasses the Theatre District, Rockefeller Center, Times Square and Hell's Kitchen. Guests will see the former homes, haunts and hangouts of the Vicious Circle of the 1920s. See where The New Yorker began, visit the spots where the speakeasies once stood, and walk in the footsteps of the legendary wits. There are more than 40 destinations on the tour; among them are places associated with the Vicious Circle: speakeasies, theaters, offices, homes and landmarks.

7:30-9:30 pm:  The Bryant Park Hotel Loft: Poetry open mic.

7:30-9:30 pm:  The Bryant Park Hotel Terrace Loft: Prose open mic.

Sign-ups will begin on-site at The Bryant Park Hotel in the Terrace Loft on June 8, and amount of time to read will depend on attendance. Events will be emceed by TWH Teaching Assistants. There will be standing mics and a theater chair setup in each room. This event fosters TWH community and provides a space for all attendees to convene. It also allows each attending student the chance to hear their fellows read, since readings are spread out across the city on TWH reading nights.
