Annette Higgs, TWH 2023 Teaching Assistant

Annette Higgs is a Sydney-based writer of fiction, short stories, memoir, creative non-fiction and essays. In 2022, her unpublished novel “On a Bright Hillside in Paradise” was awarded the prestigious Penguin Literary Prize and will be published by Penguin Random House in 2023. She holds a Master of Creative Writing and a Doctor of Arts from the University of Sydney. Annette’s short fiction, non-fiction and essays have been published in a number of literary journals. In Australia her work has appeared in TEXT Journal and Brain Drip, and is included in Signs of Life Anthology (also issued as an audio book). In the USA she was a Pushcart nominee in 2018 for “José María Writes a Story”, and her work has appeared in The Writing Disorder, Typehouse, LitroNY, Litbreak, RueScribe, The New Guard, Plentitudes Journal, and in the Adelaide Literary Journal where her story. “Evie at the Hairdresser” placed as a finalist in 2019. In the UK her work has been published in Confluence and The Selkie, and in India in the Bangalore Review.
