Janet Savage, TWH 2026 Directors Assistant (Fiction & Nonfiction)
Janet Savage is a Chicagoan living in Los Angeles and working in the TV industry. She enjoys both very old novels and experimental and flash fiction. She insists that the way the story is shaped is more important than its words. Her fiction may be found in Every Day Fiction, Dear John's and the Harvard Literary Press Anthology of New Fairy Tales.
On the non-fiction side, she wrote a groundbreaking book of literary criticism, Jay Gatsby: A Black Man in Whiteface, that has upended conventional thought about the novel she believes IS the GAN. She is lauded as a book reviewer and authors the Wuthering Type Substack. She is developing the “Literary Rebel” site focused on unconventional takes on literature and the history of literature. (Was Edith Wharton actually sympathetic with the lower classes? Answer: no)
Her current projects are:
A novel about the TV business
A musical about the Adnan Syed/ Hae Min Lee murder
A fun murder mystery featuring Agatha Christie and her rival Patricia Wentworth
A yet to be discovered story that started in her head today: “She was the kind of neighbor who thought she was a good person because she had a quiet dog.”
Janet can't wait to finish it and to meet you all.
